Buying or Leasing a Car

Keeping car maintenance costs down

No doubt about it, owning a car will cost you, even if you’re not making loan or lease payments. To streamline the costs as much as possible:

  • Get routine car maintenance done on time. You'll extend the life of your car and avoid more costly repairs.
  • Combine errands. Less use means less wear and tear.
  • Park your car in the cheapest (but still safe) lot on campus—even if that means you have to walk farther to class.
  • Buy the cheapest gas. Check with your mechanic or the car's manufacturer for the recommended grade level for gas. You probably don't need “super premium” for optimal car performance.
