Most colleges attract large companies that come to the campus to interview students for positions after they graduate.

Become familiar with which companies are interviewing and for which jobs may be available, and sign up for as many as you can. Remember - just because your major may not tie directly to what the company does, you may still find a good fit within the company. For example, if an international bank conducts interviews and you're an English major, you could potentially land a job in the marketing and public relations division, and create brochures, Web site copy, customer communications pieces, and collateral items.

Taking part in on-campus interviews is also good practice for you to hone your interviewing skills and become more comfortable with the process. This confidence increases as you interview more and more, and companies are impressed with a candidate who is cool, collected, and able to answer their questions in a thoughtful way.

Your college probably hosts at least one career fair each year. The benefit of attending a career fair is that you'll be able to visit with and learn more about many companies at one event. Come prepared with your resume, most recent transcript, and questions for the recruiters.
