Campus Success Story: Bringing CashCourse to Orientation Classes

The Jefferson Davis Community College (JDCC) Student Support Services department conducted multiple campus-wide activities to promote their CashCourse website and resources. They kicked off the promotion with a college-wide contest for a flip video camera. Students were notified of the contest through printed flyers, e-mail announcements, and the JDCC Facebook and website pages. Ground signs were printed and placed in strategic locations at the College’s two campuses. JDCC used the CashCourse marketing templates to produce their flyers. To enter into the drawing, students had to complete a CashCourse quiz, answer at least eight questions correctly, then print, sign, and return their results to the Financial Aid office.

Additionally, a hands-on presentation promoting the launch of JDCC’s CashCourse site was conducted as part of the Fall Student & Parent Orientation of the Upward Bound high school college preparatory program in late August 2010. Also, a financial literacy unit was added to 14 Orientation to College class sections that included a CashCourse PowerPoint presentation for incoming freshman throughout the 2010 Fall Term.

Key groups involved were the Upward Bound and Student Support Services Programs, which are part of the Student Affairs division, and the Orientation to College classes, part of the Humanities division.

Freshman and new student orientations are just around the corner – make a plan to add CashCourse to your orientations!
