Take the new CashCourse Web site for a spin!

We have revamped the look and feel of the site, and added some great new features. If you already have CashCourse at your school, don’t worry - all your existing customization will be seamlessly carried over to the new site!

What’s so cool about the new site?

·         Looks aren’t everything, we know that. We also know the old site was getting, well, old… so we spruced up the design and we’re excited about this fresh new look!

·         It’s interactive! We added new quizzes so your students can test their financial smarts and learn as they go. Covering everything from the basics of budgeting to the ins and outs of studying abroad, the quizzes reveal some of those details that can take you by surprise - try them for yourself and see how savvy you are! We also added polls, so students can vote on a topic and then see how their friends voted. As students explore the site, they are learning without even realizing it!

·         Don’t know capital appreciation from capital gains? Our new financial dictionary is here to help your students keep it all straight. We have hundreds of financial terms defined in plain English, so they don’t need to feel like they are visiting a foreign country when they go to their bank.

·         The new site highlights news, current events, and updated financial tips to help you stay on top in turbulent times.

It’s a great new site, with the same core mission: helping young people make informed financial decisions. Through improved technology and a more interactive experience, we hope to connect with more students and have an even greater impact!

Another milestone!

Earlier in the month we announced a contest to reach 300 schools enrolled. And, the 300th school to enroll in CashCourse was Central Oregon Community College! They were awarded $300 to put towards promoting CashCourse to their students.

Promoting workshops

At the recent NASFAA Conference, we attended a session on “Identifying the Right Ingredients for a Promising Financial Literacy Program”. The following suggestions were successful ways the panel had promoted their on-campus workshops:

·         Share information with colleagues – TRIO programs & athletic departments were specifically mentioned.

·         Door hangers in residence halls

·         Paint windows

·         Floor signs

·         Partner with a professor and offer extra credit to students who attend

·         Offer prizes, such as iPods

·         Magnets

Top Web visits

John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY saw 1,413 visits to their customized CashCourse Web site for the months of June and July!! We asked their main contact, Marisol Marrero, the Director of ONE STOP and Call Center Services, what they had done to successfully promote CashCourse to their students:

·         Linked from multiple web pages

·         Told students about CashCourse at their new student orientations

·         Conducted workshops

When asked about receiving financial education, most college students stated a preference for receiving information through pamphlets/handouts or through on-line services.
