From College Life to Real Life, New Workshop Kits Put Students on Road to Financial Success

Budgeting for Life After Graduation

Learning how to budget for life AFTER graduation is a critical step in being financially successful. This workshop focuses on managing money to ensure a bright future after college. Topics discussed include connecting income and career, understanding a monthly budget breakdown, and managing money after graduation. This workshop requires access to computers and the Internet. Students will have the opportunity to research careers and income and use a variety of interactive calculators to enhance their learning.

22 Money Management Tips

This workshop focuses on 22 money management tips to help college students become financially successful. Topics discussed include creating a financial plan, understanding financial aid, cutting expenses, building good credit, and establishing a savings habit. This great overview of money management tips is based on the popular booklet, 40 Money Management Tips Every College Student Should Know. Perfect for a college freshmen audience, the workshop covers 22 tips and involves a 90-to 120-minute presentation.

Both kits are available in the admin section of CashCourse, www.CashCourse.org/setup, or you can download them below — everything you need is in a handy .ZIP file, including instructions and templates for both facilitators and students.

Now Easier to Use, The Budget Wizard is Perfect Tool for Students

The old Budget Wizard was, well, getting to be a bit old. We wanted to make it even easier for students to create a budget and provide them with a way to better visualize their expenses. The new and improved Budget Wizard can be found at http://budget.CashCourse.org. Be sure to share this link with your students and encourage them to create a budget.

Why Use The Budget Wizard with Your Students?

The Budget Wizard is free and easy to use and keeps student information confidential. The Budget Wizard requires no personal information such as account numbers. Encouraging your students to create a budget can help them meet personal goals such as studying abroad, stay out of or reduce debt, and be better prepared for unexpected expenses and emergencies.

How Does It Work?

After logging into the Budget Wizard, students will go through three easy steps to enter in their income and expenses. The Budget Wizard provides categories of income and expenses, and students can choose which applies to them. If their financial situation changes, their budget can be adjusted and edited. Pie charts of their expenses will show them what they spend most of their money on. The Budget Wizard also allows your students to share and print their budget.

Share the Spendster Second Chance Video Contest with Your Students!

The Spendster Second Chance video contest offers redemption to everyone who’s ever bought something they later regretted or developed a bad spending habit they just can’t break. Contest entrants who submit a video answering the question, “What have you wasted your money on?” will be eligible to win back some of the cash they’ve burned through, ranging from $250 to $1,000! The contest, sponsored by the National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE)®, runs September 29, 2010 to October 27, 2010. Visit www.spendster.org/secondchance to enter and learn more.
