Starting on September 30, the Spendster Second Chance video contest will ask the question, “What have you wasted your money on?” Contest entrants are encouraged to create a video sharing what item (or items) they regret purchasing and what they should have done with the money had they not made the purchase. The entrants then will be eligible to win back some of their hard-earned money.

The Spendster Second Chance video contest offers redemption to everyone who has ever bought something they later regretted, or developed a bad spending habit they just can’t break. Contest entrants who submit a video answering the question, “What have you wasted your money on?” will be eligible to win back some of the cash they’ve burned through, ranging from $250 to $1,000. The contest, sponsored by the
National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE)®, runs September 30, 2010 to October 28, 2010. Visit

- Suggest teachers use the contest as an extra credit project
- They can create an extra credit assignment, in which students can:
i. Create videos, submit them to the
contest, and share what they learned with other students.
ii. Identify an item they regret buying, then have them use the
Spendster Calculator to calculate how much their money could’ve been worth in Google stock or in airfare miles traveled.
